What a great year it was for social media! As the new year approaches, we want to reflect on 2016 and how social media made its impact. 

This past year, we saw steady advancements in user-interface, security, and business implementation (just to name a few) to platform juggernauts like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, & Snapchat. 

We also witnessed the power of social media, as billions of people turned to these platforms during breaking events (like the presidential campaigns, Summer Olympics, & race issues). 

There was so much happening in 2016, so we wanted to highlight some of the significant trends and launches from a few social media platforms. 

Facebook

The platform now has 1.79 billion monthly users and growing fast. In 2016, video content took the landscape to a whole new level in engaging users in a creative way.

Twitter continues to be one of the best places to find news fast and should continue that trend in the new year.

Moments: Curated stories showcasing the very best of what’s happening on Twitter.

NFL Live on Twitter: Broadcasts the NFL’s Thursday Night Football games through online stream.

Snapchat

Snapchat had its biggest year yet in 2016, striking deals to acquire companies Bitstrips and Vurb, all while creating the most authentic content for users to share. 

Releases

Memories: Gives users the ability to import and share photos taken outside of the app.

Spectacles: A pair of smart glasses that records the world in your point-of-view.
