With the first quarter of 2022 almost in the rearview mirror, our team mapped out six new social media features we’re big fans of this year so far. Read on to see if any of your favorites made the cut. Have a personal fave we missed? Drop it in the comments!
1 – Instagram’s Auto-Generated Captions
-
Instagram’s own Adam Mosseri put it best in his March 1, 2022 announcement of auto-generated caption rollout, “It’s been a long time coming, but we’re excited to share a new tool that empowers those in the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.” Users can toggle auto-generated captions on or off with this new feature. Our preference? ON. Inclusivity and accessibility are key, whether posting on your personal profile or company account.
2 – TikTok’s Various Video Lengths
-
We’re fans of friendly competition. TikTok hasn’t been playing around when rolling out new options to users in 2022, especially when it comes to varied video lengths. When creating a new video, users can post content up to 15 seconds, 60 seconds, or 3 minutes in length. TikTok is also set to begin testing 10-minute video limits. Has anyone checked on how YouTube is feeling about that?
3 – Instagram’s ‘Add Yours’ Sticker
-
Instagram’s ‘Add Yours’ sticker brings together three of our favorite C words: content, collaboration, and community. Our team loves finding new ‘Add Yours’ trends on IG Stories and hopping on board (or starting our own!) to get conversations and DMs flowing about shared interests and experiences.
4 – YouTube Shorts Monetization
-
Reels, TikToks, Shorts – we simply can’t get enough. YouTube entered the chat this year when it began testing the monetization of YouTube Shorts. The rollout of this feature for veteran and new YouTubers alike encouraged brands and content creators to repurpose existing content into bite-sized videos with the potential to increase their earnings and reach.
5 – Instagram’s ‘Add Reminder’ Feature
-
As the world continues to recover from the past two years of limited events and activities, our social calendars are filling up. Instagram’s ‘Add Reminder’ feature, introduced in early 2022, allows users to attach reminders about events, sales, and promotions to feed posts. If you haven’t tried this out yet, be sure to add a clear call to action in your post’s caption that encourages folks to turn on the reminder you’ve activated!
6 – Twitter’s GIF Creation Tool
-
Finally, we head to Twitter for one of the newer features launched in 2022 so far — Twitter’s GIF creation tool. Better yet? Within the past 24 hours, Twitter updated the tool, allowing creatives to capture custom GIFs by using the in-app camera on iOS. BRB, we’re off to create a library chock-full of GIFs for our clients.
