Social Ape is excited to introduce another one of our clients, Vaulted Oak Brewing!
Vaulted Oak Brewing is now open and is located in the Echo Hills neighborhood of East Charlotte. Located inside a former BB&T Bank, 6-8 beers are on tap to start and include a blonde ale, stout, IPA, and pineapple gose. Read along to learn more about Vaulted Oak Brewing & its founder, Kyle Arrington.

1 Why did you start your business?

I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur and dealing with the craft beer industry in my previous job and being an avid homebrewer, it didn’t take long to realize my dream.

2. When and how did you start your business?

I started the business plan 6 years ago and never got the brewery off the ground. Two years ago, our real estate agent notified me of a property near our house that was being purchased and that they potentially were looking for a brewery. I took that as a sign and got the project going again and off the ground. We were set to open in June.

3. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your business?

Devoting enough time to both family and the business. There’s never enough time in the day and to share your time with two major components of your life is challenging.

4. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Probably nothing. I’m fairly boring.

5. If you weren’t working in your current role/industry, what would you be doing?

Working to become apart of the beer industry and culture in some way or location.

6. What attracted you to your industry?

The people. Fierce competitors in a pretty saturated market can be ruthless in other industries. It’s an unsaid golden rule that you just help the new generation of breweries coming up because you were there once and someone helped you. Other breweries want to work with each other and do collaborations. I think that’s pretty unique for any industry.

7. What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Grow some thick skin and start liking coffee if you don’t already.

8. What’s your favorite social media platform and why? (both professionally and personally)

This is probably not what a social media advertising company wants to hear, but right now I like Twitter because I can scroll through and read anything and everything and not have to worry about seeing an ad or comments for our business. It’s the one safe platform that we do not promote on so I can interact as just a normal person.

9. How long have you lived in Charlotte?

I came to UNC Charlotte in 2003 and have been here ever since.

10. What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spending time with my wife and kids.

11. What’s your favorite restaurant?

Lebowskis or Moosehead

12. What’s one thing you would change about Charlotte?

I think Charlotte is a great city. There are a few things that make me roll my eyes but every city of any size has the same issues.

13. What do you like most about working with Social Ape Marketing?

I like helping a fellow small business and especially one that my family and I have a pre-existing friendship with from previous work lives. Knowing folks that started just like you and in the same situation and worked their way to being where they are now is not only inspiring but establishes a trust between the client and vendor that could take strangers years to develop. I also like the free pens (:
