There’s no denying that a strong social media presence is important for a successful business. In 2019 there were 3.5 billion social media users worldwide, or about 45% of the population. In addition to posting news and updates about your business, it’s also a quick and easy way to interact with customers.
But social media managers know it can be a challenge to create compelling content on a daily basis, sometimes multiple times a day, across many different platforms. We pulled together some content ideas to consider as you begin building out your content calendar for 2021.
User-Generated Content
Photos or videos of customers and clients enjoying your business’ product or service always prove to be some of the most popular posts. Finding such content is easy. Pull from photos or videos that your business is tagged in, or search for photos by your business’ location or relevant hashtags. And don’t forget to credit the original user!
Short and Sweet Captions
Sometimes you don’t need to over complicate things. Captions don’t need to be a novel to get a compelling message across. Keep things fun with posting a single emoji, like a flame for a gorgeous outdoor shot. Or post TGIF ahead of the weekend.
Run a Contest
A contest is an excellent way to generate engagement. Call on users to like a photo, tag friends, and like or follow your page in order to enter for a chance to win a prize package. If you’re running the contest on Facebook or Twitter, don’t forget to pin the post to the top of your page for maximum exposure.
Staff Bios
Clients and customers love seeing the people behind your business. Highlight fun facts about your employees and their roles and celebrate employee milestones like birthdays or work anniversaries.
Ask Questions
Asking your followers questions not only drives engagement, but it also can provide valuable feedback. For example, restaurant owners could ask customers to comment below posts with their favorite dish or ask what they would like to see on the menu.
Industry Articles
Share relevant articles related to your industry that highlight trends, new initiatives and more. Even better if it comes from a local media outlet!
Media Coverage
Repurposing media coverage for social media is a no brainer. If it’s an older piece of coverage, you could even post it for Throwback Thursday or Flashback Friday.
Neighbors
If your business has a physical location, create a regular series to highlight other businesses’ in the area. It’s always nice to show your neighbors some love and demonstrate community engagement.
Reviews
There’s no better testament to your business than a glowing review from a client or customer. Bonus points if you create a fun graphic to go with it.
Holidays
In addition to posts celebrating the major holidays like the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving, there are also tons of other holidays to post about that could be relevant to your business. From National Pizza Day to National Relaxation Day, there really is a holiday for everything. Consider offering a special discount or sale in conjunction with a holiday.
