Summer Intern Brenna Drury
We have two summer interns that just joined the team at Social Ape Marketing and we’re so excited to have them! Read below to learn more about Brenna Drury and Emily McLeod.
Hi, I’m Brenna! I was born in Cleveland, Ohio but moved frequently while growing up, living in Budapest, Hungary for two years with my family. My family and I settled in Charlotte, North Carolina when I was eight years old and I’ve lived here ever since. I have one older sister, Erin, who is getting married this New Years Eve in DC to the best guy ever, my future brother in law, Henry. I am studying Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and am minoring in American Studies. While studying at UNC Charlotte, I have been an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America since 2019 and have held the role of Social Media Chair during the Spring 2019 semester and am currently the Vice President of the chapter. I’ll finally graduate in December 2020.
What do you do at Social Ape Marketing?
I research and curate content for the weekly newsletter and blog posts. I assist April with creating social media content for V’s Barbershop as well. I have been reformatting and redesigning the weekly newsletter for Social Ape Marketing, too.
Why are you passionate about marketing?
I like how personalized marketing can be; what works for one company may not work for another. The creativity behind marketing and how it works intrigues me. I also really like social media marketing and how everyone takes a different approach to what they believe will work. It is all so customized and unique, which I really love.
What do you do in your free time?
I love staying busy and active when I do have free time. Whether that be going to the outlets with my friends and scoring great deals, hiking at Crowders mountain with my dad and dogs, or going to get facials with my mom. The wineries and breweries around Charlotte are amazing and I love spending an afternoon soaking up the sun and drinking some good wine and beer. I enjoy going to new restaurants around Charlotte and seeing what new experiences I can enjoy!
What do you love about Charlotte?
I have lived in Charlotte for 18 years and it keeps changing for the better. I love how many things there are to do in and around Charlotte; you can truly never be bored in Charlotte! The food, the people, the atmosphere make it a city like no other with so many things offered. With the mountains two hours away and the beach being four, it is truly the best place to live.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I picture myself having graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Bachelor’s degree. I love the Charlotte area and how it has access to so much so close by, so I do want to continue to live and work in the area! I hope to work in the public relations and marketing field in the Charlotte area. In 2025, I want to be living in a home that I own and happy in my career path and life in general.
Hi! I’m Emily McLeod. I’m currently a rising junior at Clemson University pursuing a degree in Graphic Communications with a minor in Business Administration. I am a middle child with an older sister and younger brother. My sister is 23 and lives in Charlotte. She graduated from Clemson in the spring of 2019. My younger brother is 17 and will be a senior in high school this fall (scary). I grew up in the Lake Norman area right outside of Charlotte, so I definitely have a love for the lake and spending quality time on the water with family and friends. I also have a labradoodle, Maggie, who we all adore. Here is more about me!
What do you do at Social Ape Marketing?
I create and publish content for Social Ape’s social media accounts. I also assist Anna in creating social media content for one of our clients, Preston Dental Loft.
Why are you passionate about marketing?
I am passionate about marketing and social media because it’s an ever-changing and evolving industry. There is always something new to learn or keep up with, so it’s pretty fast-paced. I like this aspect of marketing because no one day ever looks the same and there’s always something to do, so it’s never boring! There’s also a lot of room for creativity, which I personally appreciate.
What do you do in your free time?
I grew up on the lake, so I definitely spend a lot of my free time during the warmer months going on the boat and spending quality time with family and friends. Aside from that, I also enjoy traveling, designing/art, playing with my sweet labradoodle pup Maggie, and cooking it up in the kitchen.
What do you love about Charlotte?
I’ve grown up in the Charlotte area my entire life, just living about 45 minutes outside of the city. What I love about the city is there are so many things to do and places to go. Some of my favorite memories are from taking weekend or day trips with my girls up to Charlotte and exploring, going to a concert, going to a football game, trying a new restaurant, and the list goes on. It’s a growing city, but it’s not overwhelmingly big which I personally like about it.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I see myself working on the creative team at a marketing firm or agency. I am fairly spontaneous, so I could see myself in a fun city on either the east or west coast. All in all, I mainly see myself doing a job that I’m passionate about at a company that I’m proud to work for.
Brenna and Emily both are so excited and grateful to be a part of the Social Ape team this summer and can’t wait to learn all they can during this internship. We look forward to seeing what they’ll bring to our team!
