Meet Lauren Wolfe, our Social Ape Spring 2020 Intern. Lauren is a senior studying Psychology at Davidson College. Originally from the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, she’s grown to love the mild climate and southern charm of North Carolina (although she still hasn’t learned to appreciate chicken and waffles). She’s enthusiastically expanding her knowledge about social media, marketing and PR with the help of the fun and supportive team at Social Ape. After graduation, Lauren hopes to take her talents into one of those fields. Get to know Lauren a bit better by reading more below!
What are your favorite things about Charlotte so far?
The restaurants! I’m obsessed with O-ku (especially when the rolls are half off during M/W happy hours), Futo Buta (authentic Japanese ramen? Yes!), southern-style brunch faves Tupelo Honey and Haberdish, and of course, Jeni’s. I also love that Charlotte offers the option of attending world-famous concerts and sporting events, and also how close it is to outdoor activities like hiking trails, lakes and beaches.
Why do you love social media marketing?
I became obsessed with social media marketing when I realized its power. In today’s day and age, things can go viral overnight. Companies can thrive (or fail) based on how successfully they manage their social media. That is amazing to me and something I want to learn to harness. If you’re a person or company who wants to thrive in this environment, you are only slowing your success if you are not actively curating your social media presence.
I especially love the branding aspect of social media. The content you post can really shape the way consumers perceive your brand.
What do you do at Social Ape Marketing?
I research and curate content for the weekly newsletter, draft pitches to media outlets and assist with one-off design projects. I’ve also been working on creating custom Instagram filters and stickers for the Social Ape Instagram.
If you could give advice to people who want to enter this industry what would it be?
Network by reaching out to people who are already doing what you’re interested in. Get as much first-hand experience as you can. Keep learning new skills that will make you a valuable team player. That could be as easy as taking the time to learn new programs, like Photoshop, or taking an online class on SEO analytics.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
Growing up with a ‘Tiger Mom,’ I was the stereotypical classical pianist. I expanded on that training and taught myself to play pop songs by ear—always a fun party trick. I’m also a freelance photographer, so it’s rare if I don’t have some graduation, senior portrait or food photos I’m either shooting or editing. I also love anything food-related. I enjoy creating elaborate açaí bowls to photograph, hunting down truffle pasta or baking Cipriani’s famous meringue cake. If seeking out good food involves travel, even better! When I need to totally decompress, my favorite activity is cuddling with my two Maltese dogs.
It’s been a treat to have Lauren on our team the past few weeks and, lucky for us, she’ll still be around for a few more! Keep up with Lauren’s adventures on Instagram at @_LaurenWolfe_
