A couple days ago Facebook introduced it's newest feature for brand pages that could greatly help those who administer business pages. Threaded comments, as seen in the screen shot below, are an easy way to keep track of conversations within comments on your posts to your business page.
For brand pages with a larger following, this is extremely important because of the nature of the debates and discussions that happen within posts between fans of the page. For instance, in the past fans would talk to each other without really having a way to tag the other user or talk to them directly. This prevented a full-on discussion between alike (or opposing) minds to interact within the brand page. The threading of comments is also a great way to monitor any page activity that may be offensive or grounds for being banned from the page. As you can see from the photo above, page admins can speak directly with the person commenting on the post instead of having to "tag" the user in another comment.
Another great feature of the threading of comments? The comments with the most interaction and Likes automatically float to the top of the comments section under the post (think Reddit or YouTube). So, the less Likes a comment retains, the lower on the comment totem pole it will be on that post and vice versa. On the other hand, the funniest and most clever posts will undoubtedly rise to the top of the comments. This can only be a good thing because it encourages your fans to put some thought into their comments as they will surely want to see their response as the top comment. The only downside of this feature? Some comments that may be important to the brand page admin could get lost in the shuffle. But if you're monitoring your own Facebook page activity, you should be seeing every post anyway, right?
A good example of a large brand page that surely stands to benefit from the new comment threading feature is ESPN. This type of brand page is more active than you can imagine. The comment-threading actually somewhat organizes the user's comments to create a hierarchical discussion between fans and haters alike. The good news here is that the senseless and negative comments will most likely sink to the bottom of this comment hierarchy. **Another interesting thing to note: Should you opt in to have threaded comments for your brand page, any comments posted after that time will be "threaded", even on OLD posts that already existed before making the switch.
This new feature is a sure-fire way to encourage your fans to talk among each other on your business page (hopefully about your product, service or industry) which will in turn keep your fans coming back for more. If you are already creating healthy discussions on your page then the threading of comments will just amplify your efforts.
